I’d never heard of P25 until I saw this video. Apparently it is a digital radio protocol widely used by Local, State and Federal government agencies. As one would expect it is prone to numerous attacks including jamming using a $15 IMME toy. Definitely worth watching. Check out their recommendations here. Well you can have all of that an more thanks to the folks at OpenCores. This project puts the power and flexibility of FPGA’s in the hands of those of us who may not grok Verilog.

Gizmodo posted on an interesting article on NetworkWorld about that system administrator in San Francisco who got pissed and 0wn3d the greater San Fran net ops. Apparently he placed a router somewhere on the net that gives him complete access to the fiber. The authorities are trying to find it but the guy has been less than helpful. I thought it was an interesting example of how one person can cause quite a bit of fuss in the digital age.
